HTC has taken the wraps off the HTC One – it’s new flagship smartphone loaded with a host of top-end features.
HTC BlinkFeed is the phones new user interface, which turns the homescreen into a kind of merged news feed collating updates from Facebook, Linked In, messages and email, as well as others. You can customise it and populate it with feeds from 15 media titles which HTC has signed contracts with.
As well as merging everything into one place, such as Blackberry 10 OS and to an extent Windows Phone 8 does, the thrust of this seems to be to give you something to look at when you have seconds to burn, such as waiting for a lift.
Specs wise, it has a 4.7-inch screen with a full HD resolution and a pixel density of 468ppi, compared to the 326ppi found on the iPhone 5. the processor is a Quadcore Qualcomm Snapdragon processor clocking in at 1.7GHz, and it has 2GB of RAM and a choice of 32 or 64GB of on-board storage
The main camera is 4MP – which eagle eyed spec watchers will identify as somewhat antique in numerical terms alone. However part of the marketing for the HTC One will focus on debunking the ‘megapixel myth’ by using ‘ultrapixels’ which are apparently particular good at capturing low light images.
You'll also be able to record HDR footage in 720p HD at 60fps and in 1080p at 30fps, while the ‘Zoe’ feature shoots both high-def video and still images in burst mode.
On the front you'll find two front-facing speakers giving you stereo sound, a system which HTC has nicknamed BoomSound with the HTC One able to intelligently identify the environment it has been placed in.
The HTC One is a 4G compatible smartphone with Three confirming they will be offering the HTC One from February 22nd. Three will also be offering its customers the upgrade to 4G for no cost whatsoever.
